The XVI Commonwealth Games held recently in Kuala Lumpur were simply astounding. The spectacular Opening Ceremony was officiated by Malaysia's King, DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong and attended by HRH Prince Edward, while the unforgettable Closing Ceremony was attended by HRH Queen Elizabeth II. KL 98 will go down in history as simply the best Commonwealth Games the world has witnessed this century. Athletes from all over the world attended these 'friendly games', some of them record holders. The Malaysian contingent achieved an unprecedented ten gold medals!
The KL 98 Games were a mammoth undertaking and their success was achieved against a backdrop of numerous regional uncertainties. We always knew Malaysia Boleh! And judging by the accolades that came pouring in from the international community and international visitors, all Malaysians have every right to bask in the success of the XVI Commonwealth Games.
